Desktop Publishing Assignments

     Week 1
  1. Complete all five Introduction Exercises

  2. Make certain you are following Introduction Requirements and Procedures  at all times in this class.

  3. Understand A Step by Step Procedure, Number 5. Introduction Exercises/Exercises 2

  4. Use our class website as the "homepage" in Internet Explorer. Do this by viewing the tutorial How-to Set Homepage In Internet Explorer ,click on the link. Go here to see our CLASS WEBSITE home page in Internet Explorer.

  5. Make Web Content/Class Website on the Desktop, see the HowTo Tutorial

  6. Create the Introduction Exercise 2 in Word, Save in L:\\Arnett\DesktopPublishing\Hour(1st,2nd,3rd,5th,7th)\Assignment(LastNameFirstName) .

  7. Then, Copy and Paste the Procedure Steps and Explanations into the Exercise 2 Form.

  8. You may now listen to the Radio or link to the Educational Games  NOTE: the radio can only be playing in the Windows Media Player "SKIN", NO WEBPAGE MAYBE OPEN, use the "PLAY" button only!. Radio stations must be 56k or less.

Computer Use Reminders

  1. All assignments are saved on your H: (your ID number)

  2. Some assignments are "turned-in" on the L:\\Arnett\DesktopPublishing\Hour(1st,2nd,3rd,5th,7th)\Assignment(Name)

  3. "Render" movies and music are saved/created on the C:\\Documents and Settings\My Documents.

  4. Do NOT save anything to the Desktop, or any other folder on the Computer

  5. Follow Class Computer and Internet Policies and Procedure, or you will be suspended from the computer, first time every time, no exceptions!

Week 2
Review Tutorial How-To, each software tool used for creating your ID is shown in a web movie. The files are large, wait for them to download on each webpage, then push the play button in the Quicktime movie viewer.

 

  1. Rotate and resize your picture
  2. Save your picture on your "H:" drive in two file formats, .jpg, .psd. Name the file lastname_firstname for each file.
  3. Create a new test layer in the .psd file picture.
Week  3 Continue DigiArt ID Creation What you should have learned:
  1. Graphic design principles
  2. Difference between .jpg and .psd file formats
  3. Saving files in different file formats
  4. Using Photoshop:
    • Rotating images
    • Resizing images
    • Move/drag photo files into Photoshop files
    • Text tool use

    • Foreground and background color palette changes
    • Layer visibility
    • Layer reorder/position importance
    • Transforming layers
      • size/scale

Week 4 Project 2 Creating a Tune in Acid Pro

Week 5 Publish Music

    Remember you can only upload/publish a  .wma file format.

Project 3 Create a Animated Cartoon of Yourself

The animated cartoon is put on the music website at Acid Planet. The cartoon of yourself is created from the photo of you that you rotated and resized for your ID/Project.

  1. Do a line drawing of yourself to create the cartoon.

  2. Draw an animation layer.

Week 6 Animation
  1. Animate the cartoon of yourself
  2. Publish your Animated Cartoon Below links are only available at EHS netwok.
    1. Resize the animation to the required publishing size; 70pixals X 70pixals.
    2. Save in the animation publishing format; .gif
    3. Publish the "lastname_firstname_anima.gif" on your Acid Planet music page.
Week 7 Foley Sound Effects
  1. Understand Foley sound.
  2. Start gathering sound assets for your multimedia production.
    1. Select sounds from the SFX library. Right mouse on the sound file link, Save Target As, to your "H:" drive.
    2. Consider the kinds of sounds that best describe the movement in the pictures you will use in the animation.
  3. Project 4A Create an animation that shows the action or motion of your selected sound.
Week 8 Adding Foley Sound Effects to the Animation Video
  1. Seeing how to make the video from Image Ready, at the end of the How-to
    1. File, Export Original, change type to QuickTime Movie
    2. Change Compression to MPEG4 Video, Quality to Best
  2. Understand how to use Ulead Video Studio
    1. When you open Ulead Video Studio for the first time you are prompted to use the Wizard or Editor; check the do not show this again and click on the Editor. Do NOT use the wizard!
Turn Assignments In on the L:/Arnett/DesktopPublishing/ your hour/project folder:
  1. Tune Folder; Project 2 publish file  = lastname_firstname_tune.wma
  2. Cartoon folder; Protect 3 publish file = lastname_firstname_cartoon.jpg & lastname_firstname_anima.gif

    Evaluation Notification, go here to let me know you are ready to be graded.

  1. You will be prompted to register your software, click Register Later, and click the "do not show again"
  2. Set the Project Properties; File, Project Properties See the How-to video Below links are only available at EHS netwok.
Week 9 Adding Titles and Special Effects to Project 4B: Movie
  1. Use Ulead, understand how to:
    1. Title = Add a title at the beginning of your movie and add credits to the end of your movie. The title name is your choice and the end credit is your name; Created by First Name and Last Name Initial. Do NOT use both of your names
    2. Overlay
    3. Effect
  2. Complete Project 4B Create a movie from your animation movie (lastname_firstname_foley.mov) made in Image Ready and the Foley FX sound.

Extra video may be added from: Video clips online search   The video clips can be reviewed and downloaded using the download button. The file format is GVI. the GVI file format is only played/viewed in a google media player. It is necessary to convert the file format to an AVI. Use this software, click OPEN, use ADD to go to where you saved/downloaded the GVI movie file from Google Videos, click the Select button and "output" to your "H:" drive location. If you use one of the clips from the web site you must give credit at the end of your movie to the creator of the video clip!
