Graphics: An Overview
Graphics can add interest and variety to your
publication. Graphics can be cropped, sized, and moved in
Publisher. Some graphics, depending on their format, can be
re-colored in Publisher. Changes to the graphic itself,
however, must be done in a graphics program.
Graphics
Sources
Graphics can be obtained from a variety of sources, but
closely observe their format. Not all formats are suitable
for use in Publisher publications. For more information,
refer to Graphics Formats. Some
graphics can be converted to a compatible format using a
graphics program. Some sources for graphics include:
- graphics created in programs such as Adobe Photoshop,
Adobe Illustrator, or similar programs
- images which have been scanned
- images from digital cameras
Graphics
Formats
Graphic formats supported by Publisher include:
- Windows Bitmap (.BMP)
- Tagged Image File Format (TIFF or .TIF)
- Graphics Interchange Format (.GIF)
- Joint Photographics Expert Group (JPEG or .JPG)
Publisher suggests using EPS for vector graphics (Vector
graphics are object-orientated and use mathematical
relationships between points and paths, connecting them to
describe the image) and TIFF for bitmapped graphics. These
file formats support precision output for text and high
resolution graphics.
Since Publisher uses the Tagged Image File Format (TIFF),
you must change your image to CMYK color mode so that it
will be printed correctly in a color publication.
To change image mode:
NOTE: Consult your graphics
program's documentation for additional information.
- Open image in Adobe Photoshop
- From the Image menu, select Mode
» CMYK Color
A check mark appears in front of the selected mode.
- From the File menu, select Save
