   Week 1
  1. Complete all five Introduction Exercises

  2. Make certain you are following Introduction Requirements and Procedures  at all times in this class.

  3. Understand A Step by Step Procedure, Number 5. Introduction Exercises/Exercises 2

  4. Use our class website as the "homepage" in Internet Explorer. Do this by viewing the tutorial How-to Set Homepage In Internet Explorer ,click on the link. Go here to see our CLASS WEBSITE home page in Internet Explorer.

  5. Make Web Content/Class Website on the Desktop, see the HowTo Tutorial

  6. Create the Introduction Exercise 2 in Word, Save in L:\\Arnett\DesktopPublishing\Hour(1st,2nd,3rd,5th,7th)\Assignment(LastNameFirstName) .

  7. Then, Copy and Paste the Procedure Steps and Explanations into the Exercise 2 Form.

  8. You may now listen to the Radio or link to the Educational Games  NOTE: the radio can only be playing in the Windows Media Player "SKIN", NO WEBPAGE MAYBE OPEN, use the "PLAY" button only!. Radio stations must be 56k or less.

 
 

Computer Use Reminders

  1. All assignments are saved on your H: (your ID number)

  2. Some assignments are "turned-in" on the L:\\Arnett\DesktopPublishing\Hour(1st,2nd,3rd,5th,7th)\Assignment(Name)

  3. Do NOT save anything to the Desktop, or any other folder on the Computer

  4. Follow Class Computer and Internet Policies and Procedure, or you will be suspended from the computer, first time every time, no exceptions!

 
 
Week 2 Review Tutorial How-To, each software tool used for creating your ID is shown in a web movie. The files are large, wait for them to download on each webpage, then push the play button in the Quicktime movie viewer.
  • Understand and Apply Design Principles to Identification Card Creation

  • World newspaper  seach
    1. Look at the different categories of information in newspapers
    2. Decide the kind of categories we should have in our school newspaper.
    Save three articles that you could use as inspiration to write a article for the school newspaper.
    • Save the articles in your "H:" drive.
Week 3 Writing Articles
  1. Pick one of the articles you saved from a online newspaper and identify the What, Who, Where, Why, and When of the article.
    1. Find the 5 Ws in the article. See an Example Article
    2. Download the  Writing 5Ws, fill in the 5W information for the one of the articles you saved from your online newspaper search.
    3. Save the Writing.doc with your lastname_firstname_writing.doc on your "H:" drive.
  2. Use the writing prompt and write an article that is based on the article from the online newspaper but appropriate for Eastern High School newspaper, the Easterner--See an Example.
 Week 4 Interviewing
  1. Based on your proposed article
    1. List the people you are going to interview. You must have at least one person with a personal point of view and one person with an authority point of view.
    2. Using the schedule database find the student or teacher schedule for 6th Hour to request an interview during 6th hour or if there is a conflict, request a time before, after school or during lunch.
    3. Write the questions, using Word, for the interviews; questions should explain the 5Ws of the article.
    4. Print, on the HP1200,  your Promt.doc for the article  in the explanation area type the people names, teacher, student, authority and their room numbers and/or location your propose to interview .
    5. Print, on the HP1200, your interview questions.
    6. Give me the above printed papers for OK and sign your PressPass for interview times. Save into the L:/Arnett/Easterner_Newspaper/VOL5/5Ws_prompt&interview_questions

Week 5  Write Your Article
  1. Based on the Article you researched.
  2. Based on the Prompt.doc 5Ws
  3. Based on the answered interview questions.
  4. Do not format any of the article text, no font changes, no font size change.
  5. Put the title at the top in capital letters.
  6. Make certain your name is in the by line under the title.
  7. Save the article in the L:/Arnett/Easterner_Newspaper/VOL5/Articles    File name should be your "lastname_firstname_v5"
Week 6  Photographs for Your Article
  1. Understand how to take good photos
  2. Photograph people, places, or things that support and add interest to your article
    1. Check the cameras out, cameras must be returned by the end of class period.
    2. Recharge batteries when you are finished with the camera
    3. Edit your photos for size and lightness
    4. Insert the photo into your article
  3. Use Photoshop to edit and enhance your photos.
    1. Resize the photo; Image, Image Size, 4 inch width.
    2. Rotate the photo if necessary; Image, Rotate Canvas, 90CW
    3. Change the lightness of the photo; Image, Adjustments, Brightness/Contrast
    4. OR, use the Burn Tool; change the tool size to a larger size in the options palette.
  4. Create a Center Fold Collage for the Newspaper
    1. Open the "center_college_template.psd" in "L:/Arnett/Easterner_newspaper/VOL5/center_collage/
    2. Open a number of the pictures taken around the school.
    3. Practice the editing and enhancing techniques on photos for the collage.
    4. Using the move tool; click and drag each photo into the collage template. Notice each photo is a separate layer.
    5. Rotate some of the layers/photos. Edit, Transform, Rotate, click and drag the corner to the desired position.
    6. Using the Eraser tool, erase all photo edges with a large soft edge brush.
    7. Save the file in the center_collage folder with your "lastname_firstname.psd" for the file name.
Week 6  Editing Newspaper Articles
  1. Edit/Check all articles for:
    1. No font formatting
    2. Picture size and brightness
    3. Correct  grammar and spelling
  2. Each student must edit two articles for the above corrections. To get credit for editing, save the persons article with the addition of your last name. The first edit would have your last name after the writers last name; the second would have your last name after the first person to edit the articles last name, so, Kivon's article would be saved "brown_arnett_ware.doc" showing that I edited it first, then, Katie Ware edited it last.
Week 7 Using the Newspaper Template in Publisher

Week 8 Adding Articles to the Newspaper
  1. Open the Newspaper template, check the month and volume for accuracy.
  2. Decide where each article should go, what page and what text boxes
    1. Go to the page and text box location for the article
    2. Select all the text in the text box and any linked text boxes.
    3. Paste into the selected text boxes
  3. Open the Articles in Word, use the file with two editors names saved on the file name.
  4. When you are ready to add articles to the newspaper: Edit, Select All, Edit Copy into the newspaper text boxes.
  5. Copy the pictures the same way, and paste them into picture boxes in the article textbox locations.
Week 9 Review, Edit  and Print Easterner Newspaper

Review and edit the VOL 5 Newspaper,.

  1. Open the final VOL5 Newspaper layout, download the final version from HERE.
  2. Review the layout for accuracy, corrections should be saved into the L:/Arnett/AdvDesktopPublishing/ lastname_firstname_final
